I love chocolates

Okay… let me confess.

I’m a health and organic food follower but I just can’t resist good chocolates. Some of my friends call me chocoholic and would sneer at my ‘double life’.

Chocolates have gotten a bad name over time. Other than increasing your cholesterol, causes weight gain, they can also worsen acne skin. But the good news is dark chocolates do contain heart-healthy plant compounds called flavonoids. Moderation is the key. Here are some facts about the different types of chocolates:

  • Dark chocolate: Contains antioxidants called flavonoids, which are considered heart healthy. Dark chocolate has no added milk fat.
  • Milk chocolate: The most popular chocolate. Has more added sugar and fewer flavonoids than dark chocolate. Also contains added milk fat, which raises cholesterol levels.
  • White chocolate: The least healthy. Contains no flavonoids; has added sugar and milk fat.

If you really have a craving, go for dark chocolate and it is also better to consume after a meal. That way, you avoid over-indulging.
