Your Liver Health

Let’s talk a little about liver health – the ‘mulit-tasker’ of our body, yet often the most underappreciated organ.

Do you know that your liver acts as a detoxifier of everything that enters your digestive tract and everythings that is breathed in or absorbed through your skin. It helps to cleanse the blood of toxic substances and works as a blood purifier. It works as a processor, converting carbohydrates, fats and proteins into fuel your body can use. Lastly, it acts as an immunity enhancer, helping your body maintain hormonal balance and resist infection.

While drinking alcohol may be seen as social fun and sophisticated amongst some, it can damage your liver if done to excess throughout your adulthood. The problem is not many people know that the liver is responsible for protecting itself and the rest of the body from the harmful effects of alcohol.

Other parts of the body can be damaged if the liver has been damaged by alcohol. The liver actually helps to prevent dangerous levels of toxin from accumulating in the bloodstream. However, there is no single right answer as to how much is too much; even moderate to social drinkers can develop liver damage

Tip to keeping your liver healthy and happy:
Squeeze a lemon into distilled or spring water, add a pinch of powdered ginger or ginger scrapes, 1 tablespoon of flaxseeds and 1 teaspoon of psyllium powder.
