
How can I forget to include tea tree oil in my list of favourite healing herbs? This is the ‘must have’ in my house, my room, my handbag and when I travel.
Tea tree oil is an essential oil taken from the leaves of Melaleuca alternifolia which is native to Australia. I first learnt about it many years ago during my search of an effective treatment for mosquitoe bites. I began to realise that the varied medicinal use of tea tree oil due to its antiseptic and antifungal qualities.
Being recognized as a potent antiseptic in Australia, recent studies has supported the role for tea tree oil in skin care and treatment of various ailments. I find it an effective treatment for treating acne or pimples. On many occasions when I have any cuts or abrasions, a dab of tea tree oil will stop the bleeding.
Tea tree oil is also effective for treating bug bites, boils and minor wounds.
