There are some foods that we should limit in our diets. They are rhubarb, Cranberries and plums. These foods contain oxalic acid and dietitians have advised that we leave them out of the diet except for rare occasions. Prunes, however, contain a beneficial nerve salt and have a natural laxative effect , so in spite of having a high acid factor, it is still recommended, especially fresh prune plums. They are my favourites, actually.

I was talking to a friend who sells auto accessories and had serious joint trouble. He was told by a natural health advocate to avoid high oxalic acid foods including spinach and cooked Swiss chard. If you must eat cranberries, avoid too much sweetening. Raisins and apples make good sweeteners.
