By now, most of us have known that lung cancer is only one of the disease related to smoking. Smoking can also lead to mouth, esophagus, throat, cervical, and tongue cancers. The risk increases especially with a diet that lacks fruits and vegetables as well as physical activity. Aside from cancer, the chemicals in every cigarette stick can lead to other respiratory complications like emphysema and tuberculosis. Smoking has varied devastating on the body, and respiratory complications is just one of them.

While the smoker may be the one inhaling the smoke, the people around are also exposed to what is called “secondhand smoke”, which is more harmful because the smoke did not go through a filter. Secondhand smoke is more detrimental to the people exposed to it, and cause respiratory complications as well. The truth some people may have great difficulties kicking off this habit and some may even need to use anti-depressant drugs to help them. This seems to increase the chances of those trying hard to quit from smoking as the drug helps to block off the effects of nicotine, which in turns help in the withdrawal symptoms.

One of the things a smoker can do to weaken the effects of cigarette smoking is to consume more fruits and vegetables (at least 5 servings a day) and combine it with physical activity. Exercise hastens the depletion of nicotine in the brain and it is for this reason that smokers feel the urge to light another stick after a strenuous exercise.
