With our family vacation leading up in six weeks’ time, I can’t wait to sit back, relax by Waikiki beach and make time for a therapeutic massage. Well, I’m sitting here wondering… What do most people think of when they decide on a vacation spot? Long walks on the beach, sight-seeing of the famous landmarks, sampling all the good eats and restaurants filled with local fare, shopping until you drop in the many unique stores downtown? Others may think of camping adventures, action-packed journeys hiking, biking, and “roughing it†out in the wild (like my hubby). Still others may like to relax with a book by a secluded pool and not be disturbed the entire vacation. For me, I’ll like a combination of some of these things and adding in a pampering session in one of the award-winning spas in Waikiki!

The sad thing is that many people do not think that a good massage or relaxing spa is a wonderful way to detox, rest, relax and rejuvenate the mind and body. Personally, I’ll choose a session of relaxation massage over a drinking session to de-stress or rest the mind. I admire those skillful hands and kneading fingers of experienced therapist who is able to ease and relief those tired muscles. I can feel like the tension loosen and stiffness relieved. Not forgetting the soothing music that calms the spirit which often sends me to an easy snooze.

What I would like to try is a detox spa, if I get the chance. A detox spa enables you to participate in a wide variety of activities that are tuned to a healthy body, spirit and mind. Most detox spas offer a menu to their customers which is the essence of health; organic produce, herbal teas, organic fruits and vegetables, cold-water fish and other healthy accompaniments. It incorporates exercise into the program for individuals. Massages are provided to stimulate the lymphatic system, which helps the body rid itself of toxins. Besides, tackling the mind and body, you are also treated to beauty pampering such as pedicures, manicures, and facials, as well as nutritional supplements to assist the detoxification process.
While it can be rather expensive to visit a spa, yet the lasting benefits of the therapeutic massage experience and all the pampering far outweigh the money spent. It is definitely worth the effort and the expense to take care of yourself and learn new ways to live a healthy and happy life.
