It saddened my heart when I saw the picture of a young teenage boy who was struggling from chronic drug abuse. The story was published to highlight the importance of recovery and treatment as well as to provide education to the general public about drug abuse concerns.
As we look around in our world today, we know that drug abuse has hit many people and this problem seems to exist among those who are emotionally or socially troubled. We have read about celebrities with drug issues and have you ever wondered why are they resorting to drugs when they have all the wealth and media popularity and attention their fans are giving them?
Drug treatment and recovery should be taken seriously and for this to happen, good support is needed by counsellors and family members. An effective alcohol and Drug Abuse center is helpful in implementing treatment programs for long term recovery. Detoxification is often the first step in a drug abuse program. This is a step where licensed physicians administered a gentle process that allows the body to rid itself of the drug and its residues. There are withdrawal symptoms which may include depression, fatigue, vivid nightmares, agitation, abdominal cramps, restlessness and increased appetite. As the body is rid of drug residue, the patient is mentally clearer and more focused to begin the process of recovery.
