Studies show that the number one reason for obesity in children is not junk food, ice creams, pizzas and soda pops. It’s actually the goggle box - TV. Children tend to plop themselves on the sofa and munch away happily when they are in front of the TV sets. In other words, once the set is off, their natural buoyancy will lead the children to do stuff and to move their body.

Recreation and outdoor activities are a must if you feel that your child needs to lose undesirable fat. It is better to begin these activities as early as possible. As a parent, it is your responsibility to encourage your child to be actively involved in outdoor activities which will improve their developmental skills. Leading by example is another good way to get kids back out side. If parents or a favorite aunt, uncle, family friend, do nature activities on a regular basis, most kids will pick on on the enthusiasm shown by the adults.

A walk to the park to look for butterflies such as Monarchs, Swallowtails, Mourning Cloaks, Painted Ladies can be an adventure and gets those muscles moving !

I once had a whole groups of neighbors involved, adults and kids, in monitoring the progress of Monarch butterfly chrsalids tied to bushes and plants in various gardens.

    Fabulous afternoon evening activity !

I agree that kids these days do not get out much. They are glued to the tv programs and video games. Parents need to encourage their kids to do outdoor activities.
