Seeking Education in Natural Health

Healthy living does not come automatically. It requires efforts, commitment and knowledge. Many people don’t bother to take care of their body. They took their bodies for granted, fed it with lots of good and bad stuff and only came to a realization that they had abused it. An acquisition of knowledge in natural health is a journey of awareness and this comes from a desire to learn and be educated.

Learning should not cease. Whether you are learning to enrich yourself or advancing yourself for greater heights in life, it encourages the mind to grow. I am glad that the introduction of online university has made way for people to acquire a new discipline of study or to deepen their knowledge of an expertise. For those with family and personal commitments, an online study provides the opportunity for career growth too. With a wide array of courses, those who are seeking higher levels of study like online mba can be done from home or anywhere in the world. With such flexibility the ability to learn and advance can be an advantage.

Next year, I hope to acquire an education in natural health. I’m not sure about the details at this point but deepening my roots in this discipline will benefit me in years to come.

Holistic Treatment for Acid Reflux

My search for a holistic treatment for heartburn started when the doctor diagnosed me with acid reflux last year. Heartburn or acid reflux is an irritating and uncomfortable feeling that makes one feel sick. It isn’t nausea but you feel like there’s a warm upsurge of wind in your windpipe. I detest that feeling.

Sometimes the burning sensation at the back of your throat or down by the breat bone can be quite painful. My doctor told me that I needed to go on medications on a long term basis and that led to search for other alternative therapies. After my research I found out that a lifstyle change is necessary to deal with acid reflux.

Soft drinks that contain caffeine can worsen acid reflux. Other foods to avoid are chocolate, peppermint, spicy foods, acidic foods like oranges, canned tomatoes, onions, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli and brussel sprouts. Personally I have consumed some of these foods and they did not worsen my acid reflux but you should avoid them when you are experiencing heartburn.

The holistic treatment of using manuka honey has worked very well for me. Take a teaspoon 30 minutes before meal and let it dissolve slowly in your mouth. Do this on a regular basis and you will soon find that it is an effective remedy. It works for me and since then, I don’t need to depend on medications. Some people have success in using manuka honey for alternative treatment for severe acne. When buying manuka honey, choose the good quality and active ones. Avoid milk and milk-based products contain calcium and fat, so should be avoided before bedtime. Some also suggest that it’s good to avoid food for 2 hours before bedtime and not lying down after a meal.

Alternative Therapies and my Mom

As my love and knowledge for alternative therapies continue to grow, I feel more confident and at ease when I’m under the weather. My mom used to get frantic over a little throat clearing or sniffles but I often have to assure her that everything is under control.

It is hard to convince her why alternative therapies work better in the long run for certain ailments. She is that kind who is skeptical about vitamins and supplements and she even considers them ‘medicine’. It’s only of late that she began to understand why some supplements really work for certain diseases. Take for instance her knee joint pain that she’s been complaining about lately. For years, I have been buying her glucosamine supplements till she reprimanded me on one occasion. So I stopped buying them for her. Months later, she was having so much pain in her knee and her doctor actually told her that the painkillers ain’t going to solve her problem. He suggested taking glucosamine and not long after that, she told me about this. Finally she opened her heart and mind to alternative therapies and started her glucosamine supplements again. This time, it’s on her own accord and she hasn’t complained since. Infact, her knee pain has shown much improvement too.

As I looked back, it’s interesting to note how I used to ask my mom how to get rid of blackheads when I was a teenager and now that I’m a grown up, she would ask me about alternative therapies that will help her with some common ailments. And I’m so happy to share my knowledge with her and this time, she doesn’t need much convincing anymore.
