Organic Virgin Coconut Oil

I was introduced to the goodness of organic virgin coconut oil very recently. Unlike long chain fatty acid in animal saturated fat, the medium chain fatty acid (MCFA) in virgin coconut oil raises your metabolism and boosts your immune system. It contains potent healing properties with antiviral, antibacterial, antimicrobial and antiprotozoal properties.

Virgin coconut oil is excellent for infants and children who are not breast fed as the oil contains high lauric acid (best known as the main component of mother’s milk). Lauric acid protects infants and children from common childhood infections and illnesses. This whole food is also recommended for pregnant and lactating mothers to build up immune system and to increase the lauric acid in the breast milk.

Here are some other reasons why you should include organic virgin coconut oil as your supplement:

  • Reduces risk of atherosclerosis and related illnesses.
  • Reduces risk of cancer and other degenerative conditions.
  • Helps prevent bacterial, viral, and fungal (including yeast) infections.
  • Supports immune system function.
  • Helps control diabetes.
  • Provides an immediate source of energy.
  • Supports healthy metabolic function.
  • Improves digestion and nutrient absorption.
  • Supplies important nutrients necessary for good health.
  • Supplies fewer calories than other fats.
  • Promotes weight loss.
  • Helps prevent osteoporosis.
  • Has a mild delicate flavor.
  • Is highly resistant to spoilage (long shelf life).
  • Is heat resistant (the healthiest oil for cooking).
  • Helps keep skin soft and smooth.
  • Helps prevent premature aging and wrinkling of the skin.
  • Helps protect against skin cancer and other blemishes.
  • Functions as a protective antioxidant.

    My Super Food – Yogurt

If there’s one super food I have to choose for optimum nutritional health, it would be Yogurt. Besides being loaded with bone building calcium, high protein, essential B vitamins, it is loaded with healthy immune boosting, friendly bacteria that can keep our gastrointestinal tract happy.

Here are other reasons that make yogurt a super food:
    Yogurt is easily digestible
People with any allergies to cow’s milk, either because of a protein allergy or lactose intolerance, can enjoy yogurt. The culturing process of yogurt makes it easier to absorb and less allergenic.

    Yogurt makes your colon happy
Yogurt contains lactobacteria, intestines-friendly bacterial cultures that foster a healthy colon, and even lower the risk of colon cancer. Lactobacteria, especially acidophilus, promotes the growth of healthy bacteria in the colon and reduces the conversion of bile into carcinogenic bile acids. The more of these intestines-friendly bacteria that are present in your colon, the lower the chance of colon diseases.

    Yogurt is an immune booster
Research shows that when two cups of live-culture yogurt are consumed daily for three months, higher levels of immunity boosting interferon are produced. The bacterial cultures in yogurt have also been shown to stimulate infection-fighting white cells in the bloodstream.

    Yogurt fights yeast infections
Research has shown that eating eight ounces of yogurt that contains live and active cultures daily reduces the amount of yeast colonies in the vagina and decreases the incidence of vaginal yeast infections.

    Yogurt can lower cholesterol
Few studies have shown that yogurt can reduce the blood cholesterol. This may be because the live cultures in yogurt can assimilate the cholesterol or because yogurt binds bile acids, (which has also been shown to lower cholesterol), or both.
