On cholesterol
June 6, 2007 |
I believe that cholesterol can become too high in the body when we consume an excess of animal fats, eggs, butter, milk, cream as well as fatty meats. Even though there are cholesterol lowering drugs, the main problem with high cholesterol is our lifestyle - too little exercise and too much of the wrong kinds of food (high fat, high salt, low fiber, high sugar).
It is dangerous to think that we can eat anything we want in whatever amounts we feel like eating. We should avoid being overweight and avoid foods that cause it. This means eating less meat, more cereal grains, more salads, fruits and vegetables. Greens are good in helping to metabolize fats and sadly, most of us do not have enough greens in our diets.
As I read some Cholesterol drug information for Doctors, I come to a conclusion that a low fat diet is essential in keeping cholesterol levels and body fat down. Some simple steps would be to:
- avoid fried foods
- use lots of salad vegetables and greens
- include green herbal teas such as comfrey and dandelion
- use whey in your diet as it is high in natural sodium and able to dissolve calcium deposits
- include lecithin in your diet
- replace alcohol coctails with natural ones made of celery juice, cucumber juice or spinach juice.
