As the saying goes, “the eyes are the window to the soul”. The eyes have the power to spell all sorts of emotions - happiness, sadness, fear, anger, doubt, curiosity or even thoughts of betrayal. I’ve been short-sighted for the last 25 years and looking back, wearing contact lenses was rare and viewed as a symbol of luxury. I couldn’t wait to grow up to own my first pair of contact lenses. I needed that for convenience due to my active outdoor lifestyle and of course, I liked to flaunt my eyes and long eyelashes!

Contact lenses are no longer marketed or purchased for pure functionality these days. They have emerged to suit various lifestyles and trends. You may be familiar with some of these big brands in the market if you are a contact lens user - Acuvue, Focus, Bausch and Lomb, Ciba Vision and Freshlook. In fact, contact lenses can even be purchased and ordered online now at VisionDirect.com. How convenient can that be! You don’t even need to spend hours waiting to be served in the shop or drive to your optician’s place. Just fax in your prescription given to you by your eye care provider, choose your lenses and your order is placed.

Personally, I was a toric contact lens user for a while before switching to daily disposables as I tend to get eye irritations, due to a lack of eye care when I was younger. Thus, I would encourage any contact lens user to keep your lenses clean with proper care and storage, using the right lens solution. It is important to change your lenses on a regular basis, depending on the type of lens you are using. And don’t overwear your lenses. It is important to stick the instructions given. My hubby has this habit of extending his monthlies to two months and his eyes will then become sore.

In the name of vanity, I am still thinking of trying out color lenses one of these days (*wink*) As I browse through Vision Direct who specializes in all types of contact lenses and other eye, beauty and health products, I am almost lost with the number of choices available on the website!

Here are some home remedies or tips on eye care for everyone:

Carrot Juice helps eye infections as Vitamin A in carrot juice is able to prevent and get rid of eye infections.

For irritated eyes, use a grated potato pack and leave it on for twenty minutes. Choose organic ones.

Linseed oil is one of the best cleansing agents you can use in your eyes. Putting drops in the eyes (one in each) is the best thing for eyes irritated by smog. Use sterilized ones.
