These days, people are more careful in reading labels making buying anything from the supermarket shelves. But the problem is, like spot weight reduction, people tend to spot read labels and thus, left out important or hidden facts of certain food ingredients.

Don’t grab that product that says ‘no trans fats’ right away without first reading the full ingredient list as it may contain high sugar or high fat. Don’t be too happy when it says ‘low sugar’ cos the fat or calorie level may be hitting high on the ingredient scale. People who wanna lose weight depends on weight loss machines, diet pills and slimming therapies. But no matter how much you depend on those weight loss options in the market, it will remain defenseless if you keep indulging in sweets, fatty foods or junk foods.

We truly are living in a fast world with the advancement of technology, but your body still is very much natural. Thus you will still have to be grounded to what is naturally required by the body, healthy diet, regular exercise and considerable amount of time to develop that desirable state.

Whenever I’m invited to a lunch meeting, I often hear discussions on weight loss methods and diet pills discussion women who are working towards an overweight physique. Then I will spot the ladies indulging in large portions of salads drizzled with creamy dressings on top of their leafy greens.

What is not highlighted is that eating all sorts of salads may not necessary keep your weight on the scale. Instead, low-calorie green salads do. Having a low-calorie salad – which is not defined as one that’s loaded with croutons, high fat dressings, and cheese – may be the answer if weight is your main concern. Wisely choose your ingredients, and its high fiber content can be the key to helping you fight cravings later in the day.

There is no better time to educate the next generation on the benefits of healthy eating. I have seen many parents handing junk foods liberally to their young children. On one occasion, a friend of mine wanted to offer my 18 months old child with a big piece of chocolate. I intervened and told her that he was too young for it. That incident had me labeled as a ‘boring’ and uninteresting mom. I shrugged off with jest on that comment but was firm in not allowing my 18 month child to have it.

I am not an unreasonable mom to begin with. But I, along with many child experts and paediatrician agree that young children should not get into the habit of junk food indulgence. This is especially so if they are below 2. When my child turns two, I allow moderate amounts of indulgences such as a cream cake, chocolate biscuits or candies. Moderate here means a small portion or one piece of chocolate biscuit. I do not want to deprive my child. Neither do I like him to pick up these unhealthy eating habits. Educating your child on the harm effects of junk food indulgence is helpful too. They too should understand why junk foods can deplete their energy levels and how they are not beneficial for their teeth and overall health.

Research has shown that children who are exposed to junk foods and practice unhealthy eating habits tend to lose their appetite for real meals and many have become food pickers. Besides, children need a well balanced diet of whole grains, protein, calcium rich foods and essential vitamins to maintain a strong immune system and develop a healthy body. Healthy foods such as salads, vegetables, and fruit should be also be included in your child’s diet.

I also offer children’s vitamins and supplements to my child and some of these are in the form of yummy gummies like the ones by Hero Nutritionals or. You can get them at VitaPal.com – Discount Vitamin Warehouse. Free Shipping on orders over $100.

It is rather common for people to go ‘free and easy’ with their diets and eating habits when they are on the go. I often hear friends telling me that they are eating anything they want cos they are on vacation! As much as I believe that we should go overboard in restricting our diet patterns during a vacation, we should still try to eat healthily by choosing our food options.

Before traveling to your destination, you can check out travel guide to find out the various restaurants and eating establishments available and plan your trip accordingly. It is alright to take it easy but that doesn’t mean you should eat ANYTHING at the expense of your health. It’s all about knowing how to strike a balance and recognizing your own health condition. After all, your vacation is not just about eating. It’s about giving your body and mind a well deserved break and to be refreshed and rejuvenated for your sense of wellness.

As we strive to eat healthy and practice good lifestyle habits for the good of our health and beauty needs, it is important to avoid listening to some myths on healthy eating.

1) Eating what you want

Eating healthy and exercising doesn’t mean you can eat anything you want. Everyone needs the same nutrients whether they exercise or not, as well as fruits and vegetables. You can exercise everyday and put on the best beauty products but you don’t choose the right foods to eat, no best acne treatment can treat your face from acne problems.

2) Skipping breakfast

Skipping breakfast is never a good idea, as breakfast starts the day. Your body needs fuel as soon as possible, and without it, you’ll be hungry throughout the day. Beginning the day with a glass of fresh vegetable or fruit juice is a good choice too.

3) Not enough calories

Although losing weight involves calories, losing it too quickly is never safe. What you should do, is aim for 1 – 2 pounds a week. Always make sure that you are getting enough calories to keep your body operating smoothly.
